Ryan, that is why the quote is funny, options are so speculative that knowing something doesn't really give you an edge.

You also have to factor in the cigarette smoke.

Anon, thank you for clearing that up. My point was that in order to invest in stocks and bonds you have to know a little about what you are doing. To play a slot machine you merely have to put a coin in the machine and pull the lever. Also, the more you know about how investing in securities works, the better off you are. You can eliminate some of the riskiness of the market by having a diversified portfolio of securities. I'm not saying I'm an expert on the subject, but lately I've been forced to learn a lot more about this topic than I have ever cared to know.

Actually you can't ever eliminate market risk, that will always be there, by diversifying you eliminate company specific risk.
